Crisis Overview

Extremely heavy rainfall has exacerbated already critical conditions for families living in Bzeibiz Internally Displaced Persons (IDP)* camp in Anbar.

Many have been living in the camp for up to 12 years, fleeing their homes and villages when ISIS took control. Even now, families are still being prevented from returning home. Instead, many continue to live in tents ill-equipped to deal with adverse weather conditions, with very little governmental support.

Heavy rainfall over the last few days has pushed more than 8 million cubic meters of water into the Euphrates and the resulting flash floods have left hundreds in Bzeibiz camp with no choice but to evacuate damaged or destroyed tents, seeking refuge in local schools.

As the escalating regional conflict draws Iraq further in, the crisis is deepened. With Anbar under continual bombardment, the security situation remains volatile and rapidly changing.

Urgent Needs

The most immediate need for families right now is safe shelter. Over 450 tents are damaged and in urgent need of repair, while at least 300 must be completely replaced.

Families are also in critical need of basic amenities, including blankets, bedding, mattresses, food containers, reliable heating and cooling supplies and critical household items, such as small stoves, cooking pots, hygiene supplies, and, most importantly, food.
