the
 Light

Through war, disaster, and turmoil - we're there. No village is too far. No family is forgotten.

Emergency Response and Recovery

Over the years our Emergency Response and Recovery Department is a lifeline to millions of people who have fled conflict in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon.

Currently, Iraq hosts over 1 million internally displaced people, 4.8 million returnees and 327,000 refugees.

Since 2004, we've provided emergency and post-emergency assistance throughout Iraq. From the very beginning, we've worked with organisations such as the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to distribute food and core relief items to millions of people.

We recognise the importance of crisis-affected individuals regaining control of their lives. That’s why we're helping families fleeing conflict in Lebanon with MHPSS sessions, legal assistance, medical support and mental health and psycho-support sessions.

In partnership with GIST and the Berghof Foundation, we’re identifying the needs of those affected by climate change in Ninewa, Diyala, Kirkuk and Sulaimania. Through household Key Informant Interviews and Focus Group Discussions, we’re collecting vital data to help agencies respond better to climate-induced emergencies.
