Fighting Domestic Violence During COVID-19 Pandemic

Mercy Hands, through its initiative "Lawyers for Women Center" www.lawyersforwomen.org, continues to provide psychosocial and legal support to victims of domestic violence and GBV at large.

Because of the social distancing and curfews resulting from COVID-19 pandemic, the center has focused on delivering its anti-GBV messages through social media and providing legal aid through its hotline. One of the leaders of the center, the lawyer Ms. Amani Mohamed, has been giving a series of law lectures that were recorded and broadcasted via Civil Society Broadcasting (CSB), which is an internet based radio and one of the programs of the 7th Sense Foundation for Culture and Media. Here is a link to one of those lectures: Alimony Claims and How to Win Them.

Also, Lawyers for Women Center continue to coordinate with the Iraqi Community Police, the center refers cases of women that need police support while the Iraqi Community Police refers cases of women that need legal and psychosocial support.
